Please look over the following report outline with your child. This report is to be completed in class with teacher direction and peer support. Proofreading of the report is also encouraged to be done with the student at home – please note that it is proofreading not writing the report. You may also help to gather materials. We will be using a Gateway Page Mrs. Jordan has created that will limit our Internet research.

Famous Inventors Research Directions

  1. Choose an inventor for research.
  2. Search for resources from Internet, encyclopedias, magazines and books.
  3. Skim read to see if you could find enough information about this inventor.

  4. Talk about your inventor with a friend.
  5. Begin taking notes on the provided form. If it is an Internet site – list the site. If it is an encyclopedia – list the name of the encyclopedia and the volume. If it is a book –list the title of the book and the author. If it is a magazine – list the title of the magazine, month and title of the article.
  6. When you have completed enough notes on one square, write a paragraph about it.
  7. Be sure to skip lines for proofreading. Complete the paragraph on notebook paper.

  8. Read and correct your paragraph with a friend, then a parent and finally with your teacher.
  9. Continue numbers 4, 5, and 6 until your rough draft is completed.
  10. Begin your final report and copy your rough drafts into paragraphs skipping lines.
